Abstract

This paper analyzes the synthesis and critique made by Arnau de Vilanova in Gladius iugulans thomatistas of Thomas Aquinas'theses regarding the (in)convenience of knowing beforehand the advent of the end of time, and contextualizes this discussion in the dispute between the Catalan doctor and the theologiens Jean Vigorós and Martín de Ateca. In addition, the mentioned fragment is edited with three complementary passages and also the literary content of the ms. Canon. Misc. 370 (Bodleian Library, Oxford) is described.
