Abstract

(Chemical Equation Presented) Natural born killers: Nonglycosidic α-galactosylceramide (α-GalCer) analogues, with a polyhydroxylated aminocyclohexane moiety as the galactose surrogate, constitute a new class of charged NKT cell agonists. One of these compounds, HS44, promotes in vitro NKT cell expansion in a similar fashion to α-GalCer but with lower potency, and induces the release of IFN and IL-4 in iNKT cell culture causing a biased Th2 cytokine profile response. © 2009 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
