Alternatives to Antimicrobial Growth Promoters in Cattle

Research output: Contribution to journalArticleResearchpeer-review

Abstract

This chapter reviews some alternatives to antimicrobial growth promoters in cattle feeds. Modulation of energy and protein metabolism in the rumen is discussed. Alternatives to modulate rumen microbial fermentation (direct-fed microbials, organic acids and plant extracts) are presented. The specific antibodies against rumen microbes are outlined. The effects of feed additives on rumen fermentation are also discussed.
