Abstract
Gadamer's thinking on art is usually understood as a questioning of Kantian aesthetics, that is, concerning the process of subjectivization of aesthetic experience and its consequences for aesthetics and the social sciences in the 19th century. Despite this contrast, the main aim of our paper is to show the ambivalence of Gadamer's philosophy of art with respect to the Critique of the Faculty of Judgment, especially in relation to the Kantian concepts of play, genius, spirit and symbol.
