AC susceptibility of half-half jointed melt-textured YBCO rings

Abstract

Three half-half jointed melt-textured YBCO rings have been prepared and their ac susceptibility χ has been measured at 77 K as a function of field amplitude Hm and frequency f. All the half rings have their c-axis along the ring axis and there is a nonzero a(b)-axis misalignment angle φ{symbol} between the two jointed halves. It is found that χ(Hm) is consistent with the critical-state model for rings with φ{symbol} = 1° and 8°, whereas χ(Hm, f) is anomalous for the ring with φ{symbol} = 14°. © 2007 Elsevier B.V.
