Abstract
This brief introduction to the monograph presents a review and valuation of the 17 years of exhumations of mass graves in Catalonia. It describes the evolution of the actions undertaken by the administration since 2004, as well as their legal framework and the diverse institutions and their responsibility at each stage. It also analyses the response to social demands on this subject and their political implications, and evaluates the objectives and the rate they have been achieved. Lastly, the study delves into the relation between the administration and the científic production and its dissemination towards society. On this matter, the it outlines the contributions of the articles of this monograph penned for the most part by the professionals responsable for the search and dignification of the missing victims of the Spanish Civil War and the Franco Dictatorship.
