Description
This project examines how platforms, especially those that facilitate remote online labour, transmit ‘legacy’ inequalities such as race and gender to the digital world, while simultaneously promoting ’emerging’ inequalities that diminish users’ agency and enhance the power of big tech companies. By combining hypotheses and methods from sociology and neighbouring disciplines, such as large-scale corpus linguistics, VOLI relies on speech technology and artificial intelligence.
