Valoració de l'estrès de captura i maneig postcaptura de la cabra pirinenca (Capra Pyrenaica)

Project Details

This research project is related to capture and postcapture handling stress assessment, including transportation, of Spanish ibex (Capra pyrenaica). The goals of the project are the following: 1. Establishing the most efficient methodology for handling Spanish ibex once captured by means of box-traps; 2. Establishing the efficiency of drive-nets for capturing Spanish ibex; 3. Establishing the efficiency of teleanesthesia (immobilization rifle) for capturing Spanish ibex; 4. Assessing stress caused by transportation. This goal will help us to determine the best stress indicators for survival prediction, apart from determining the less stressful and more efficient method for handling Spanish ibex once captured in different manners. This project is aimed to improve management associated with capture and postcapture handling of this iberian species. Few data have been reported in relation with stress derived from this procedures in Spanish ibex. It also will provide data for researchers working with this species in other fields where handling would be needed
