The analysis of acute phase proteins (APPs) in blood provides us, in addition to clinical information of great value for the diagnosis of inflammatory and/or infectious processes, data on the health and the well-being of the animals. Through the determination of these proteins we can detect stress situations (nutritional, environmental, competitive,&) and establish early the most opportune measures to correct these situations. The present research project tries, in the first place, to validate the diagnostic tests available in the market at the moment, for the study of the APPs in four species of wild ungulates (Spanish ibex, chamois, red deer and wild boar). Secondly, to provide the reference values of the more specific APPs for each one of the mentioned species. The proteins that we will analyze will be the following ones: - Spanish ibex and chamois: serum amyloid A, haptoglobin, acid alpha-1-glycoprotein and ceruloplasmin. - Red deer: C-reactive protein, serum amyloid A, haptoglobin, acid alpha-1-glycoprotein and ceruloplasmin. - Wild boar: C-reactive protein, serum amyloid A, haptoglobin, ceruloplasmin, acid alpha-1-glycoprotein and Pig-MAP. Despite the numerous studies made in domestic animals, livestock and pets, in the international literature practically do not exist data on acute phase proteins in wild ungulates. The application of the results of the present research project goes mainly directed to improve the management of populations of chamois, Spanish ibex, red deer and wild boar. With the obtained results, we will be able in the future to make studies in different populations to value its well-being (to determine the degree of stress which they are under)
