    Project Details

    Description

The aim of this project is to study comparatively two cases of immigration to Catalonia from abroad. The main focus is on African labourers (specifically from the Sub-Saharan area) who have been the subjects, in recent years, of a variety of experiences at work and in their general social environment in Catalonia which demand urgent research. The two groups to be investigated are residents of Banyoles and Matró, respectively, which for some time have been receiving immigrant labour but which are clearly distinct economically and socially. Data will be obtained through intensive field work. The goal is to obtain first hand knowledge of the African immigrants working and living conditions in both sites as a basis for future investigations into such aspects as education and health needs, cultural and religious experiences and demands and/or possibilities for the immigrants to become integrated into the receiver country
