The proposed project studies the developemnt of the new techniques for the autologous transplantation of condrocytes for the treatment of joint lessions. This is achieved by artroscopic biopsia of sain tissue and bone marrow, where the precursors from the condrocytes are located. The cartilage reparation is envisaged with the use of cellular matrixes designed by tissue engineering approaches to support condrocytes progenitor cells and growth factors within the tissue lession. Tissue engineering will provide a tool for the develop alternatives to the conventional reparation techniques, combining cells, biomaterials and biofactors in elements that can be reimpalnted quirurgically in cartlage lessions, allowing their optimal regeneration. The evolution of cartlage development will be studied in vivo and in vitro, with the objective to know the secuence of molecular and chemical events in the differentiation of stem cells and somatic precursors into condrocytes. Finally, a tridimensional matrix compatible to use with artroscopic intervention is targeted, with the object to make possible a treatment more comfortable and less invassive for the pacient, with lower costs and faster recovery. This will allow to use this regeneration therapy more widely.
