Description
The central idea of this research project is to study the evolution of television in the European Union because the technological innovation and the changes of legal context during the last decade. The project focuses on a two main aspects: the analysis of the changes in television contents in Europe since 1990, and the study of repercussions on the audiencies (quantitative) based on the evolution of the forms of television consumption (qualitative). The importance of this period of the study documents the influence on the media by changes in the legal, political, technological and economical fields. The evaluation of the contents of television programs is performed through the analysis of the genres that shape the television grids, studying the traditional formats of the media and their evolution from the generic hybridazation of the forms. This analysis is complemented by a study of the audiencies, from a double perspective, quantitative and qualitative. This methodological approach allows us to understand and explain the changes of the audiencies behaviors that have been shaped by the processes of televiison reception in a moment of progressive rise and thematic change in available channels, brought about by privatization and digital compression. The study of the evolution of television in Europe allows us to advance in the knowledge of the trends of the formats, schedule policy, counterprogramming strategies, audiencie-targeting and the audiovisual production industry in the EU
