Transformaciones del sistema de radio y televisión en España en el contexto de la digitalización (1997-2010)

Project Details

Description

This research proposes studying the configuration of the new digital radio and television system in Spain from the beginnings of the process in 1997 to 2010. The Spanish radio and television system is undergoing a major transition (in 2010 the analogue TV system will be suspended to make way for a definitive implantation ofDTT, while the future of digital radio(DAB/DRM) has not been clearly resolved). These issues present important research challenges with respect to the adoption of public comunications policies and public, private and business strategies. The project proposes analysing public policies and business strategies involved in the configuration of this new system, wich signifies substantial differences with respect to the analogical model that has dominated for more than 50 years. The research also proposes identifying the political and cultural consequences of this transformation, and plans to put forwar strategic ideas in order to help facilitate this transition within the framework of democraticcommunications poicies in Spain. The experience acquired, since the 1980s, by the research team, both in the field of communications policies, system structure and in the study of digitalisation of local radio and television broadcasts in Spain, offers a firm base for the broadening out of its study of the process of digitalisation of local radio and television system to regional and state levels (relating these to local levels).
