Project Details
Description
The project introduced is part of the research area started in the Chemical and Environmental Engineering Lab., addressed to the study and development of advanced treatment of waste-water and residual gases contaminated by toxic or refractary contaminants, based on biological processes. The biological processes have the advantage over physicochemical treatments of reducing production of solid wastes and using mild working conditions. The research project we present starts the work in the area focusing on the separation of heavy metals in waste-waters by biosorption process, which in the particular case of industrial waste-waters are a big problem for the following treatment of organic dissolved material by biological treatment. Other wise the biological process of the secondary treatment provides the biomass required by the biosorption process.
