Description

The aim of the network is to encourage and promote the application of thermodynamic methodology in applied areas of research, as well to expand the horizons of thermodynamics to include nonclassical phenomena that cannot be treated within the existing framework. The interests of the network can be classified in terms of pure and applied research. Pure research is concerned with the characterization of nonequilibrium systems and the generalization of thermodynamic concepts and quantities to include complex nonlinear systems operating far from equilibrium. In applied research, there are groups working on colloids and surfaces, on photo-thermal-voltaic and chemical energy conversion, on thermoeconomics, on liquid crystals, on chemi-turbulent combustion and on cosmology.
