Description
One recent outstanding achievement of the thermodynamics of irreversible processes has been its success in relating in a non-trivial way dynamics and thermodynamics. The extended irreversible thermodynamics (EIT) which links the dynamics of the dissipative flows with nonequilibrium thermodynamic potentials is one of these advancements. To this theory we have been actively involved in the last fifteen years. In this period EIT has experienced a large development and it now plays an important role in present thermodynamics, as it can be judged in view of four recently published monographies and several review articles. The aim of the present project is to give an additional impetus to this theory and to put it into a more firm basis. This will be achieved along the following lines: 1) to get deep into the foundation of the theory and find solutions to those open problems thath involve basi
