Chemical sensors are considered of the important modern tools for fast detection and accurate determination of various ionic and molecular materials in water, soil and air, due to its easy use, light weight and fast response in addition to its selectivity and sensitivity. These features enable its use in the field for direct clinical diagnostic at the physician place, water quality control , or monitoring hazardous materials in polluted area. Despite the high performance of many of the chemical sensors based on polymeric membranes, it suffers from the problem of leaching of the sensitive material from membrane which results in decreasing its sensitivity and minimization its life span. The present study aims to chemically immobilizing the sensor material (like phthalocyanines, metalophthalocyanines and their derivatives&etc) onto the supporting membrane by its covalently attaching to some acrylic polymers or some polypyrrol, polyaniline or polythiophene. That will guarantee its permanent stay in the membrane matrix allowing for a long-living sensor and improving its performance and selectivity. This study aims to use some new and developed compounds such as metalophthlocyanine& their derivatives and polyphthalocyanines as neutral carrier ionophores, for the fabrication of novel long-living chemical sensors that can be applied in the field of drinking water and environmental analysis. Some of the analytes to be considered will be those related with the detection of pollution episodes, such as ammonium (using the ionophore nonactin), nitrate (using quaternary ammonium salt) or other anions (use of metallic phtalocyanines).
