An analysis of the literature about the larger foraminifera distribution during geological times suggests the following hypothesis: shallow water larger foraminifera with a simple shell structure are periodically replaced by others having more complexe organization. The frequent synchronisation of there placements would indicate that they are regulated by oceanic-climatic mechanisms, mainly eustatism. The complex structure present in the shell of most larger foraminifera responds to internal physiological or metabolical needs as well as to adaptation to the environment. Consequently, they constitute a good exemple to mesure the events in the platform.
