Protecció de la víctima i rehabilitació dels delinqüents en llibertat (violència domèstica, violència sexual, violència racista)

The aim of this researc project is to provide knowledge about the effectiveness of offenders' rehabilitation programmes in community and victims' protection programmes. The research is focused on three areas in which the values of the offender are relevant. These are: domestic violence, sexual violence and racial violence. The premises of the research are the following ones: a) in this kind of criminally, when offences are not serious, an effective criminal policy against recidivsm should be developed by means of community sentences and, when offences are serious, the offender should be allowed to serve a part of the prison sentence in community. This premise is defended on the basis of the scientific literature that claims that a rehabilitation programme should take into consideration the offender's life context; b) Offenders' rehabilitation in community is only acceptable provided that protection of potential victims is guaranteed. The topics of the research are basically the following ones: a) study of the effectiveness of sexual and domestic violence rehabilitation programmes applied abroad, that use therapies (in the context of probation and parole programmes), including the capacity of these programmes to assure victim protection (by measures such as informing the victim, restricting the freedom of movement of offenders or electronic monitoring); b) study of racial victims' protection programmes applied abroad (by means of social help to the victims); c) assessment of the domestic violence victims' protection programmes and domestic violence rehabilitation programmes in community, applied in Spain
