    Project Details

This proposal follows the project that, with the same title, our research team is carrying out from 1999 thanks to grants from the Ministerio de Educación y Cultura (1999-2002) and the Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología (2002-2005). As it can be seen in the following pages, the work carried out until now makes clear the main aim of the project: to extend the knowledge concerning musical life in its various aspects (productions, consumption, diffusion and patronage among others) in the ancient Kingdom of Aragon from ca. 1450 to ca. 1650. The aim of the project for this call is to finish the compilation of muscial sources from the above-mentioned historical and geographical area (manuscripts, printed music, musical iconography and historical documents relates to musical life), the computerised processing and digitalisation of the data, the interpretation of the data in relation to its social and cultural context, and, likewise, the connecction of these data with the Spanish and European musical scence. The results that we are obtaining, positively evaluated until now by the Ministerio, show clearly the kind of work we are carryng out. A work that beyond its mere data base condition, allows monographic studies concerning music between ca 1450 and 1650. As can be seen in the different parts of this document, thede studies have already given several results, which have being published in Spanish and international magazines. In addition to the compilation and study of sources and documents, this project includes the elaboration of an exhasutive bibliography including books and articles devotes to Renaissance music and related ti the above-mentioned historical and geographical context. This bibliography remains widely scattered at present. Finally, our research team, whose membres have been working together in this matter for several years, wishes to provide a methodological pattern which could ne used and adapted to other European geographical contexts.
