Description

The purpose of this project is to investigate the pre-Hispanic myths' elements in a variety of Latin American literature texts in order to prove that their presence is broader, more various and complex than it is generally thought. In order to prove it, it is intended to initiate a systematization not only of the tradition-linked but also the symbolical, structural, expressive and cognitive functions of the reviewed myths. This will be carried out not only through an analysis of traditional mythical texts and their projection upon some well known writings but also on other less famous ones or those whose mythical contents are less evident.
Therefore, two types of combined studies constitute the basis of this research intended to systematize their achievements and explore new lines:
a) The oral and heterogeneous studies which require an interdisciplinary methodology so as to explore the relations between these texts and the marginal culture and the functions of the myths according to different parameters such as the writer's situation, social and cultural context and the literary current to which they belong.
b) The thematics and the image studies, which require a comparatistic methodology, in order to carry on the analysis of the myths' functions regarding their symbolical, expressive, structural and cognitive value and thus avoiding their consideration as mere quotations of mythical stories.
So as to approach this rather organical and structural consideration of the myths, this projects is tailored to be a place of confluence of diverse studies related to this topic, a center which will establish a communication from Spain to other academic institutions and centers of knowledge.
