This project is the fourth in a permanent line of historical and geographical reseach on population of Catalonia, now enlarging its scope with new interests in migration and population prospective. The specific targets are: 1. Historical studies: a) construction of the series of marriages for all of the parishes os the area of the Diocese of Barcelona (1600-1900); analysis of results in both chronologic and the geographic dimensions. b) development of a methodology for population reconstruction based on marriage numbers. c) exploratory follow-up of the nominative data obtained from censuses in 1497, 1515-16 and 1553. 2. Contemporary studies: a) migrations in Catalonia, in their diverse dimensions; b) changing trends in demography since 1996; c) prospective and projections (population, labor, households).
