Description
The joint Masters program ‘German and French Philosophy: Contemporary Issues’ offers a high-performance French/German bilingual course, delivering (for 120 ECTS) a multiple degree in philosophy over two years in the fields of French and German phenomenology, classical and contemporary German philosophy and contemporary French philosophy. It takes on the problematical and critical role of philosophy, preparing students for both university research as well as intellectual intervention in the social and political domains of society, the theory of artistic practice, feminist and decolonial thought and the ethics of care. It brings European philosophy into dialogue with current philosophies stemming from Latin American, African and Oriental contexts. It offers, depending on the research topic of the student, additional multi-disciplinary training in arts and literature and the human and social sciences. The European universities involved in the program are: The University of Toulouse 2 Jean Jaurès (the coordinating university- FR), The Catholic University of Louvain(BE), the University of Wuppertal (DE), Charles University in Prague (CZ), the University of Coimbra (PT), and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (ES). During their studies, the students stay in 2 or 3 of these European universities. The non-European universities associated with the course- the University of Memphis (USA) and the Federal University of Sao Carlos (BR)- also organise semesters of study for European students enrolled in the program. An intensive language training course is provided during the first semester by the Goethe Institute of Toulouse (for German) and the University of Wuppertal (for French).
