Project Details
Description
The causative agent of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is a RNA virus classified in the \i Arteriviradae\i0 family. The economic loses currently place this disease among the among the most important in the herd industry. The first aim of the present project is to obtain a panel of monoclonal antibodies (MABs) against home isolates of PRRs virus. The MABs will be used to characterize the different viral strains obtained previously. This will allow us to establish the different antigenic specificities of viral isolates as well as to perform a first selection of MABs to be included in a diagnostic kit. Finally, a diagnostic kit will be tailored taking a system based in competition or capture ELISA as starting point. At the project completion, we will have a better understanding about the different strains of PRRs virus having incidence in herd industry. This, together with the obtaining of a reliable diagnostic kit will permit a better disease control, resulting in an increased productivity of herd industry.
