The project aims to comprehensively investigate the problem of river reservoir siltation, with the final goal to generate an useful model for the prevision and better management of surface water resources. The users of the model will be mainly the hydroelectricity industry and the organisms responsible for water management, civil safeguarding and climatic change analysis. In order to reach the main objective, the project includes the following aspects: (i) Studies of the watersheds, also with analysis of historical data series; (ii) Studies of the hydrosedimentary dynamics and the resulting sediment filling of the reservoirs; (iii) High resolution radiochronological dating of the sediments in the reservoir, with concurrent radiological studies of the water column; (iv) Building of the sediment filling model, involving software adaptation and development. Tasks included in points (i), (ii) and (iii) will provide the field data necessary to implement de model. A web page on the project will be produced and maintained, and the final deliverables will include the software created to obtain the model, and the model as well. Partners of the project include the companies QuantiSci and FECSA. The main responsibility of QuantiSci is the design, building and validation of the model. FECSA is an hydroelectricity power company owner of the three reservoirs where the experiment will be performed. FECSA is also providing its extensive historical data sets on the studied reservoirs.
