Project Details

Description

This project is set to improve the non invasive diagnosis and prognostic evaluation of human brain tumours. This development should facilitate proper therapeutic or surgical care of the patient. For this, we are going to use detection of the metabolic phenotype of the studied tissue by proton magnetic ressonance spectroscopy \super 1\nosuper H MRS. Diagnostic markers will be automatically extracted by pattern recognition analysis of \super 1\nosuper H MRS data. New case classifiers obtained from those markers will be incorporated into a graphical user interface (GUI) developed during the INTERPRET EU project for display of relevant classification data to clinicians. Furthermore, we will study animal models of cancer (brain metastasis of mammary adenocarcinoma in mude mice) by high field \super 1\nosuper H MRS/MRI (9.4 T) to follow possible new tumoral markers induced by various metabolic stimuli (i.e. hyperglicemia). We are also interested in obtaining additional diagnostic relevent information from cellular and animals models of cancer, like the relationship between NMR -detectable mobile lipids and necrosis or arrested proliferation or the possible detection by \super 1\nosuper H MRS of extracellular matrix rearrangements in the tumour
