The proposed project deals with a kind of opto-thermal bistability characterized by the localization of the absorption in one reflective mirror of the bistable cavity. The aim of the project is the investigation of two classes of nonlinear devices: a) all-optical flip-flops, with positive pulse switching and compatible with parallel processing and which may act as a binary memory element; b) bistable microdevices at the end of optical fibres.
