    The aim of this project is to study the specific features of social development of children who belong to the gipsy and magrebine ethnic minorities in Catalonia (Spain). The conceptual background of this research is the well known tenet that each culture creates an ordering of meanings (a worldview) that shapes the social life (patterns of behavior, activities, values, etc.) of its members. The immigration or traditional gipsy discrimination entails a cultural shock for children as soon as they go to school since this reproduces -at a small scale- the ethos of the dominant culture. Our research inquires into the socialization practices of families and kinds of social interaction amongst gipsy/magrebine and peninsular children at school age. We intend to shed light on the aspects of their culture that make the difference and then have some consequences on living together, in the school an
