Description

As a continuation of the PB93-0870 project granted by the DGICYT to elaborate a study on \i Writing and the book in Catalonia. ixth to xith centuries\i0 , the aspiration in the new project is to continue with the same study subject, applying it the following centuries, therefore driving into the first years of the Lower Middle Ages, in wich the surviving manuscripts and the documentary references to lost libraries are both more plentiful. The study method, logically, will be the same as the one used in the previous project that, nearing its completion, has produced very good results, already displayed at international forums. Therefore, the intention is to continue the palcographic and even "codicologic" analysis of the documents of notarial nature copied in book script (a research trend that has a parallel development in a secondary and complementary project entitled \i "Chartae scriptura libraria exaratae")\i0 ; to examine, in an exchaustive way, the inventories of ecclesiastic and private libraries, the published as well as the unpublished ones -the great majority-, enclosing them into a computerized database, and to study, finally, with special atention, the intact and fragmentary codexs of the aforementioned centuries. The objective is still, then, the recopilation of the necessary data to elaborate a well based history of the manuscript book in Catalonia, inscribed inside the history of the catalan culture and the wider scope of Spain and Western Europe.
