Far from dwindling, people's interest in sport is constantly on the up in today's modern information society. Such interest becomes apparent in several different ways, though the most common one is what we could term "media sport". Increased xiewing figures and a higher number of sports broadcasts on television and identity. These circumstances should not be interpreted as isolated or unusual phenomena. Instead, they should be considered as new examples of the organisaational models and cultural practices of our times. Studying the relationship between sport and television seeks to discover a body of knowledge that is more generally applicable to the logic governing modern audiovisual systems, new information technology, and the cultural and social patterns of our times.
