Project Details

Description

Rudistes and corals were important organic builders in the carbonate platforms of the Tethyan seas during the Cretaceous period. The short-term goals of this project are to analize the major environmental parameters that controlled the development of rudistes build-ups, and the influence of these parameters on their internal structure, geometry and size. The longer-term goal is to document changes in Cretaceous reef ecosystems through the study and comparison of diverse rudistes build-ups. This project is a contribution to a new international research effort on Cretaceous sedimentology geology, organized by the IUGS Comission on Global sedimentary Geology. Entitled Cretaceous Resources, Events and Rhythms, the project will address global aspects of the Cretaceous, and one of its objectives is to determine large-scale facies patterns of Cretaceous platforms and evaluate the differences be
