Recently, the research on women has become a very important subject of the social sciences and in polity of social promotion. This project posits the possibilities of a socio-archaeological study of women since the beginning of Prehistory and until the first complex societies in the Mediterranean basin. Our aims are: firstly to elaborate a rigorous critique of the several perspectives of the historiographic studies on women of the early human communities. Later, we shall elaborate an instrumental methodology to obtain socio-economic readings of the situation of women from the archaeological evidence. From the proposed methods, we shall study specific cases of the Palaeolithic burials known in Eurasia and two archaeological sites of Western Mediterranean. Special emphasise will be given to the palaeoanthropological studies.
