Description

This research project will focus on the constituency and properties of the so called "functional categories". Recent research appears to indicate that their behaviour may be crucial in determining the configuration of grammars of particular languages. On the other hand, the characterization of such elements and their properties, in connection with their ability to govern, would explain the linguistic change of phenomenon both from the point of view of diachrony and synchrony and from the ontogenetic perspective. The project will be organized following different but coordinate lines of research developped by the members of the group: INFL complex (AGR, tense, aspect, modality and negation morphemes), COMP phrase, determiner phrase, gender, number and degree phrases, secondary predicates and prepositions.
