La huella de la domesticación y de la selección en genes candidatos para el metabolismo adiposo y el comportamiento en porcino: Estudio poblacional

We propose to study the relevance for pig breeding of eight candidate genes that affect fat metabolism and behavior using two complementary approaches, a population genetics approach and an association study. In the former, we will study the nucleotide variability and linkage desequilibrium pattern, among other parameters, in a large 500 diversity panel representative of the world wide porcine variability and of wild boar. The objective is to characterize the possible domestication and selection footprints that may exist in these genes. In the second study, the association between a selected set of SNP's and about 3000 animals from our porcine populations will be analyzed. The populations are two Iberian populations that represent all extant Iberian, and two composito Sino-European lines. The third study consist of comparing the hypohysis and adrenal gland transcriptomes between five porcine breeds. This work also comprises coalescence simulations aiming at realistically represent the demografic and evolutive processes undergone by livestock populations and to test several methods for fine mapping in the presence of a high density of markers
