The aim of this project is to analyse the role of local councillors in the Spanish Local Government. Assuming that local government is to some extent the political level in which elected officers are closer to citizens demands and to political decision processes, local councillors have been studied in other countries as having a special role with regard to citizens and institutions. The first stage of the research will be based on the councillors self-perception of their role, taking as working material 40 interviews conducted with local councillors in a sample of Catalan towns and cities. In a second stage, the research would be enlarged with the inclusion of other Spanish cities and towns,. And with the use of other research methods
