The aim of this project is to identify historical moments during which conceptual conflicts arose in order to discover mechanisms with which to resolve them and advance towards the building up of general theories. The concepts in question are those which structured chemical science during the XVIII and XIX centuries and which still structure the chemistry taught to non-university students.
