As a continuation of the PB96-1222 project granted by the DGES to elaborate a study on "Writing and the book in Catalonia" (XIth to XIIIth centuries), we are complelled in the new project is to study in depth with the same subject, applying it the XIIth-XIVth centuries,therefore driving into the first years of the Lower Middle Ages, in which the surviving manuscripts ant the documentary references to lost libraries are both more plentied. The study method, logically, will be the same as the one one used in the previous project that, nearing its completion, has produced very good results, already displayed at national and international forums. Therefore, the intention it to continue the paleographic and even codicologic analysis of the documents of notarial nature copied in book script (a research trend that has a parallel development in a secondary and complementary project entitled "Chartae scripture libraria exaratae, without financiation); to examine, in a exhaustive way, the inventories of eclesiastical and private libraries, the published as well as the unbpublished ones-the great majority-,enclosing them into a computerized database, and to study, finally, with special attention, the intact and fragmentary codexs of the aforementioned centuries.The objective is still,then, the recopilation of the necessary data o elaborate a well based history of the manuscript book in Catalonia,inscribed inside the story of the catalan culture and the wider scope of Spain and Western Europe.
