In radiocarbon dating, the initial carbon-14 activity of the sample must to be know. It depends on the chemical and isotopic conditions of the environment. In travertine dating, it is necessary to know the value of the radiocarbon activity of water from which travertine is precipitating and the radiocarbon activity of recent travertine. Both let us date old-travertine with accuracy and reability. Their valuation and causal relationships between them are the main purposes of this project. We hope to get phenomenological and methodological conclusions which let the results be applied in other types of carbonate rocks. The Bandoleers lake has suitable features in order to developing this study
