Project Details
Description
The final objective of this project is to bidirectionally interact with the peripheral nervous system through an integrated circuit to be implanted between the stumps of a cut or injured peripheral nerve. The "neuroprostheses" or neural chips are integrated circuits which are multipierced in order to get the axons cross through the microholes while regenerating. To reach this goal partial tasks have to be carried out: a) to study the compatibility of different materials used in the IC fabrication and the feasibility of the axonal regeneration through the interposed micropierced silicon dice; b) to incorporate to these dices active circuits that allow communication with the axons; c) to develop the hardware and software suitable for neuronal signal processing (emission and reception).
