Lipids may modify gastrointestinal transit-time and motility. This project is intended to study the mechanisms implicated in such effects. Divergence in the gene that codifies for Gastrin and CCK occurs in birds. Thus the study will be carried out in "Gallus gallus". The following aspects will be studied: a) definition of lipids' influence in a different degree of digestion and of different chemical structures on gastric emptying, gastrointestinal transit-time and electrical and mechanical activity of the gastrointestinal smooth muscle; b) localization of Gastrin and CCK peptides along the gastrointestinal tract, and their cellular distribution, by means of immunological techniques (RIA and PAP); c) blood level variations of these hormones; d) assay of the relative activity of the peptides ocurring in sera and tissue extracts in front of the commercially available peptide forms on chicke
