The present epidemiological study will provide useful information about the prevalence of Neosporosis in Catalonia in the main hosts described so far, dogs and cattle, and in wild carnivorous, particularly foxes, that could transmit the infection, but have not been studied in our country. The study in dogs include animals from different areas (rural and urban areas), ages, breeds, sex and aptitude to know the distribution of infection and the main factors influencing the transmission of \i Neospora\i0 infection in the canine population. Two serological techniques will be compared, IFAT and ELISA to provide a standard positive level. In foxes the prevalence of infection will be analysed by PCR, a very sensitive and specific technique, from brain samples. The main intermediate host, cattle, will be studied in farms that have a history of reproductive disorders to know if \i Neospora caninum\i0 is the cause of the problem and the subsiguient economic losses in the farms. Mothers and their sons and/or daughters will be studied to analyse the importance of transplacental and/or postnatal infection ¡n those farms. The main purpose of the study is to provide epidemiological data through an adequate diagnosis, first necessary step to improve animal productivity and provide bases for an rational and integrate control of the sickness.
