Iin this coordinated project it is proposed to study the dynamics and the carachteristics of the sedimentary fluxes in semienclosed seas and fronts that have a particular exchange dynamics, especially sensitive to the global changes. The vertical fluxes of sedimentary material will be determined using sediment traps, and its origin and transport will be determined through the analysis of its composition and the study of various radiotracers, especially \super 210Pb, \super 210\nosuper Po, and also \super 239\nosuper Pu, \super 137\nosuper Cs y \super 90\nosuper Sr. The pollutant fluxes associated with sediments will be object of study. Also, the components of the sedimentary flux wich are sensitive to oceanographic changes associated with climate (organic carbon, biogenic opale, etc.) will be studied. The record and accumulation rates of these components in the sedimentary column will be determined by radiometric dating using \super 14\nosuper C, \super 230\nosuper Th and thermoluminiscence of sediments. The study areas are the Alboran Sea, the Bransfield Strait (Antartic) and the South Pacific (Chilean margin). The study of the relationship between the current sedimentary fluxes and the accumulation rates of paleoceanographic indicators in these three different climate zones will contribute to improve the paleoceanographic and paleoclimatic interpretation of the sedimentary record and its application in the study of the climatic changes.
