Filling in the Gaps: Exploring the Structure and Processing of Gapping

Project Details

Description

This project investigates the structure and processing of gapping constructions in English and Spanish using formal syntactic analysis and online psycholinguistic experiments. It aims to determine whether gapping is constrained by hierarchical structure or can be explained by linear principles, and whether sentence processing mechanisms are universal or language-specific. The results will contribute to an integrated model of ellipsis and provide a solid empirical basis for future experimental research on Spanish sentence processing.
