Factors determinants del desenvolupament agrari en Catalunya: recursos naturals, organització del treball agrari i canvi tècnic

The project intents to characterize the Catalan model of agrarian developement in the context of Mediterranean agriculture. The three variables that oru previous research has concluded as fundamental will be explored: (a) the disponibility of natural resources (water and nutrients), (b) the central role of the familiy farm in the organization of agricultural work, and (c) technical change before and after the introduction of industrial inputs and mechanization. The project will focus on the analysisof the period between 18th and 20th centuries, trying at the same time to trace back the roots of these developements. The understanding of the Catalan case of agrarian development will allow a better comprehension of the general process in other regions.
