Po/Pb-210 can be used as a tracer of particle (and associated contaminants) transport from continent to ocean, as a tracer of biogeochemical processes in the water column and for the dating of recent sedimentary processes. The study of sediment transfer between continent and ocean requires the use of techniques that permit to quantify the fluxes and to study their basic biogeochemical processes. Amongst the available techniques it must be stressed the use of radionuclides as tracers of diverse marine processes, specially those related to particles due to the affinity of some radionuclides present in the water column with suspended material. Due to the general property of radionuclides to decay through the emission of particles, they may be detected with high sensitivity using radiochemical procedures and relatively complex detection systems. Furthermore, the activity is governed by the r
