    Description

Several studies indicate that, in spite of coenzimatic function in different metabolic pathways, thiamine phosphoesters may play specific roles in the central nervous tissue. Studies in progress strongly suggest that release of thiamine compounds to the extracellular space could trigger the fast reaction of microglial cells, which sinthetize and release different growth factors and interleukines and promote the astrocytic reactivity and the immunological response. The aim of this project is to study the changes induced by increased levels of thiamine pyrophosphate a) in vivo by means of intracerebral injection, and b) in vitro by using the orgonypic slice culture method
