Description

The Syndrome of Overtraining (OS) is characterized by a loss of performance and by cardiovascular alterations, specially arrythmias that can be in extreme cases potentially malignant. Some episodes of sudden death when there is not an apparent organic injury could be consequence of the OS. Neither conventional analysis nor the typical complementary scanning in cardiology are enough to reach a definite diagnose that could justify the temporary stop of training and athletic competition. That is the reason why the goals of the study are: to identify and to describe the markers of the not too well known OS detected in some elite sportsmen and to evaluate specifically the role of the sympathetic nervous system in OS by means of a non invasive isotopic study (123-MIBG) in the moment of the diagnosis of OS and after recovery
