Studies on the metabolic effects of TGF\beta are scarce. An effect of TGF\beta on glucose transport and its capability to increase the glicolitic flux have been discovered using cultured fibroblasts. No data on the effects of TGF\beta on other metabolic pathways have been reported so far. The final objective of this project is to study the relationship between the increase in the glicolytic flux induced by TGF\beta, which so far has been related only with the transformation phenomena, and the TGF\beta considered not only as a transformation factor but as a dual regulator of cell growth and differentiation. This project includes the following aspects: A) Effects of TGF\beta on glucolysis. We will study the effects on the total flux, key enzymes and concertration of regulatory compounds. B) effects of TGF\beta on glycogen metabolism. We will study the activities of glycogen synthase and glycogen phosphorylase and the changesin the levels of the regulatory metabolites
