Description
Cancer results from the accumulation of multiple genetic changes implying the activation of oncogenes and the loss of tumor supressor genes. The available data about the majority of solid tumores are insufficient. The study of renal and bladder tumors has been focussed on known tumor supressor genes, which has given us results of great interest. However, cytogenetic and LOH studies provide us with data which demonstrate the implication of other genes that are important in the tumorigenesis process. Likewise, the mechanisms that generate genomic instability in the most frequent renal tumors (papillar and clear cell RCC) may be different and exclusive. Moreover, recent studies have suggested that EGFR overexpression is significantly mre frequent in clear cell RCC than in papillary RCC, and it has been associated with high tumor grade, poorer disease-specific survival and metastases in lung
