Project Details
Description
This project attemts to analyse the construction of women images throughout modernity from a historical, literary and artistic point of view. We intend to departure from the study of stereotypicla images hardly studied in Spain, but that nonetheless can be found in other European literatures: these range from the \i donna angelicata\i0 to \i femme fatale\i0 and its derivations (the mother, virgin, prostitute...). We will also analyse those mythes that entail the origins of these representations and their reflections in hispanic cultural texts. Moreover, we will look at other female figures, hardly ever considered at all, such as the virago, the traveller, the feminist, the mestiza... wich are also part of female images during that period. This research also attempts to look at women's construction of self-images. Private letters, diaries, and autobiographies, constitute the mirror where women can look at themselves more freely. To this effect we plan to recover forgotten texts, such as the essays by María de la O Lejárraga.
